Number Coding Decoding - Random Sequence

NUMBER CODING DECODING : Coding with Random Sequence 

This is the pattern of coding which exhibits the natural correlation of Arabic numbers with alphabetic letters. This sequence will not follow a specific pattern of assigning numbers to alphabets. The pattern can be established by various ways but in every case a set of new pattern / principle is involved which has to be done carefully. 

  • Random Sequence (e.g. A = 2, B = 3 or A = 4, B = 6, C = 8 or any other pattern following a particular sequence).
  • Example 1: If FRANCE is coded 9-21-4-17-6-8, code the following words after discerning the principle/pattern involved in this example.

    (1) INDIA               (2) CANADA               (3) GERMANY           (4) NEPAL         (5) PERU       (6) KENYA

    Solution : The pattern of assignment is read as given in the following table.

    Based on above pattern, the answers will be follows:

  • (1) INDIA = 12-17-7-12-4 
  • (2) CANADA = 6-4-17-4-7-4   
  • (3) GERMANY = 10-8-21-16-4-17-2
  • (4) NEPAL = 17-8-19-4-15 
  • (5) PERU = 19-8-21-24 
  • (6) KENYA = 14-8-17-2-4
  • Example 2 : If ‘MACHINE’ is coded as 19-7-9-14-15-20-11, then how will you code ‘DANGER’ in the same code?

    (a)  11-7-20-16-11-24            (b) 10-7-20-9-11-25           (c) 10-7-20-13-11-24             (d) 13-7-10-11-25

    Answer : (c)

    Solution : As, M = 13, A = 1, C = 3, H = 8, I = 9, N = 14 and E = 5. If we add 6 to all these numbers we get 

  • 13 + 6 = 19,
  • 1 + 6 = 7
  • 3 + 6 = 9
  • 8 + 6 = 14
  • 9 + 6 = 15
  • 14 + 6 = 20
  • 5 + 6 = 11
  • Similarly, In DANGER , D = 4, A = 1, N = 14, G = 7, E = 5 and R = 18

  • 4 + 6 = 10
  • 1 + 6 = 7
  • 14 + 6 = 20
  • 7 + 6 = 13
  • 5 + 6 = 11
  • 18 + 6 = 24
  • Hence the answer is  10 - 7 - 20 - 13 - 11 - 24.

    Example 3: If TEACH is coded 22-7-3-5-10, than the code of ROUGH will be

    (a) 18-15-21-7-8            (b)    20-17-21-7-8              (c)  20-17-23-9-10          (d) 20-17-23-9-9

    Answer : (c)

    Solution : As , T= 20, E= 5, A= 1, C= 3, H= 8. If we add 2 to all these numbers we get 

    20 + 2 = 22

    5 + 2 = 7

    1 + 2 = 3

    3 + 2 = 5

    8 + 2 = 10

    Similarly, in case of ROUGH, R = 18, O = 15, U = 21, G = 7, H = 8,If we add 2 to all these numbers we get 

    18 + 2 = 20

    15 + 2 = 17

    21 + 2 = 23

    7 + 2 = 9

    8 + 2 = 10

    So, the answer is 20-17-23-9-10.

    Example 4: If SWIFT is coded as 24-28-14-11-25 , than the code of DESIRE will be

    (a) 9-10-24-14-11-25            (b)  9-10-24-14-23-10             (c)  9-10-17-24-9-10          (d) 9-10-25-13-23-10

    Answer : (b)

    Solution : As , S = 19, W = 23, I = 9,F = 6, T = 20. If we add 5 to all these numbers we get 

    19 + 5 = 24

    23 + 5 = 28

    9 + 5 = 14

    6 + 5 = 11

    20 + 5 = 25

    Similarly, in case of DESIRE, D = 4, E = 5, S = 19, I = 9, R = 18, E = 5, If we add 5 to all these numbers we get 

    4 + 5 = 9

    5 + 5 = 10

    19 + 5 = 24

    9 + 5 = 14

    18 + 5 = 23

    5 + 5 = 10

    So, the answer is 9-10-24-14-23-10.

    Example 4: If AWARE is coded as 5-27-5-22-9, than the code of YESTERDAY will be

    (a)   29-9-23-24-9-22-8-5-29      (b)   29-9-23-20-9-22-8-5-29          (c)   29-9-23-24-9-25-8-5-29          (d) 29-9-21-24-9-22-8-5-29    

    Answer : (a)

    Solution : As ,A = 1, W = 23, A = 1. R = 18, E = 5  If we add 4 to all these numbers we get 

    1 + 4 = 5

    23  + 4 = 27

    1 + 4 = 5

    18 + 4 = 22

    5 + 4 = 9

    Similarly, in case of YESTERDAY, Y= 25,E= 5,S= 19, T= 20,E=5,R=18,D=4,A=1,Y=25, If we add 4 to all these numbers we get 

    25 + 4 = 29

    5 +4 = 9

    19 + 4 = 23

    20+4 = 24

    5 + 4 = 9

    18 + 4 = 22

    4 + 4 = 8

    1 + 4 = 5

    25 + 4 = 29

    So, the answer is   29-9-23-24-9-22-8-5-29 .
